Mac App Store (paid)

Installing UTM is as simple as purchasing it from the Mac App Store. Click here if you would like to be taken to its store page.

By purchasing UTM on the Mac App Store, you help support the developers.

GitHub (free)

Head over to the GitHub Releases page, select the latest non-beta version, then download the UTM.dmg asset. Mount the DMG file by double clicking it and then drag the UTM app into /Applications. UTM should now be installed, and you can use it normally.

This version of UTM has the same featureset as the paid version on the Mac App Store, nothing is removed or limited.

Compatibility

UTM requires macOS Big Sur 11.3 or later and is fully compatible with both Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2) Macs. UTM also takes advantage of Hypervisor.framework to utilize hardware virtualization for near-native CPU speed in virtual machines.

Hackintosh Compatibility

Hackintoshes with an Intel CPU will be able to use all of UTM's features, just like real Macs.

Hackintoshes with an AMD CPU will not be able to use hardware virtualization in UTM. This is not a UTM issue, rather it is a macOS incompatibility with AMD CPUs. Because of this, you must disable hardware acceleration in UTM. Open UTM's preferences ( + ,) and enable 'Force Slower Emulation'. This will reduce VM speed.
